Dreamy Bunny
This is an original, one of a kind encaustic painting with a drawing of a desert cottontail rabbit transferred to the surface. I love that this transfer technique allows me to display my drawings without glass over the top of them.
The painting was done on a cradled birch panel measuring 12 x 12 x 1.625 inches. The sides of the panel are unpainted. (See photos) I like the simplicity of the natural wood. The sides of the painting will be sanded and smooth. The painting is wired and ready to hang. No framing is necessary, however, you can certainly frame it if you want to. (I can help with this, if you are interested.)
Encaustic paint is beeswax melted together with damar resin. The paint is applied when it is hot and fluid. Once it cools, it hardens. I work in layers, and each layer gets fused into the previous layer with heat. I use a torch to fuse the layers. The drawing of the cottontail was done in pencil, and I scanned it and printed it out with a toner based printer. I then used pressure to transfer the drawing to the surface of the painting. The ink transfer also gets fused, so the ink becomes part of the painting. (If this sounds like a lengthy process, it is!)
It will come with care instructions.
