Young Pronghorn
This young pronghorn (antelope) was spotted when my husband and I were out driving one spring day near Moriarty, New Mexico. He was all alone, and I got out of the car with my big zoom lens DSLR. I slowly walked towards him and shot a few photos. When I got too close, he would move away from me, but then he would stop and turn, watching me. I would take a few photos and then take a step or two closer. Take a few more photos, and then step closer until he would get nervous, run away, but then stop again to watch me. I think he was as curious as I was! I kind of fell in love with him, so I had to paint him.
You can see he is about to move, with one hind foot lifted slightly.
This is an original, one of a kind oil painting on a cradled birch panel. It measures 36 x 36 inches. The cradle is about 1 1/2 inches deep. The sides of the painting were left the natural wood color for a clean, contemporary finish. The pronghorn is the main focus. There is no need to frame this painting, but certainly you can if you prefer a frame. It is wired and ready to hang. It's been signed by the artist. (me)
The pronghorn just barely fits inside the edges of the painting surface. I wanted to make a subtle statement about how wild animals are slowly being squeezed out of their native habitat by human development.
